As of September 13, 2007 the SSC Ultimate Aero has been crowned the new worlds fastest car by Guinness World Records.
 

SSC Ultimate Aero - In West Richland, Washington, USA on September 13, 2007 Shelby Supercars (SSC), The company that produces the ultra high-performance Ultimate Aero Twin Turbo, set the new 'World's Fastest Production Car' record with an average top speed of 255.83 mph. SSC felt confident of the 1183 horsepower that the Ultimate Aero produces. SSC planned to validate their top speed claim within the strict guidelines set by the Guinness World Records.

On a temporarily-closed two lane stretch of public highway in Washington State, the Ultimate Aero posted a top speed of 257.11 mph (413.83 kph) on its first pass and 254.55 mph (409.71 kph) on its run back to where it started from, that makes the combined speeds divided by two, a new top speed record, 255.83 mph (411.76 kph). The data was collected by Dewetron's world-renowned GPS tracking system, it will be verified by Guinness before the Ultimate Aero is officially the ''World's Fastest Production Car.'' This breaks the current official records held by the Koenigsegg CCR at 242 mph, and the Bugatti Veyron's unofficial speed of 253 mph.
