This is what the car looked like when I first brought it home, you can tell how long ago it was, just look at the cars in the background and around in the photo | |||

This was my first car I ever got and bought it back in 1978 from a Chrysler Used car lot. I was the second owner. However the car you see today is a Clone twice over you might say. Not only is it not an original 340 Duster but its not the first car I got. Let me explain. (I will attach a pic. of the day I brought it home back in 1978 and you will see everything looks the same only with the exception of the 6Pack Hood and 340 Stripes.) Okay here's what happened, The Duster I bought in 1978 was a 318, A904 A/T Trans & 7&1/4 rear end. The stock 318 was not enough power though for a young teenager so I went Hunting for a 340 and found a built one at a junk yard for $100 that had a spun bearing. Getting the appropriate repairs made, the stout 11:1 compression bored 0.30 over propelled me into a whole new world. Other additions would follow, such as a 727 Torqueflite A/T and an 8&3/4 rear end. Unfortunately I had wrecked the original Duster to many times to restore the way I wanted and so one day I stumbled upon another 1973 Duster in a parking lot of an apartment complex put a note on it asking if ever interested in selling it to please give me a call. About 6 to 9 months later I get the call saying they wanted to sell so I bought the Duster for $1000.It was a 6cyl Duster but the Body was perfect. So I transferred the heart and soul of the battered original to the new donor body. Though not the exact same car I still feel as though its my first car. Sentimental I suppose. Regardless of the VIN number, the car is Immaculately clean, with precision craftsmanship and near-Luxury-car-style and road manners. |
